Fried Okra is a Southern classic and now you can enjoy them with a flavorful homemade tomato jam. The kick of the Fried Okra contrasts the tanginess of the jam, making for a great appetizer and/or snack.

Ingredients:
  • Tomato Jam
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp. Chile Flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. Cinnamon Powder
  • 1 tbsp. Ginger, Minced
  • 1 tbsp. Lemon Zest
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 2 lb. Tomato
  • 2 tbsp. Lemon, Juiced
  • 1/2 tsp. Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • Fried Okra
  • 7 oz. Okra
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp. Hot Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • 1/2 cup Cornmeal
  • tsp. Cajun Spices
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 2 Qt Cooking Oil

In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, simmer sugar and vinegar until reduced slightly for about 5 minutes.

Add remaining ingredients except for the lime juice. Reduce heat to low.

Simmer for at least an hour, stirring often, until a very jam-like consistency is achieved. Add fresh lime juice as needed.

Turn on the fryer to 190°C / 375°F.

Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl.

Mix buttermilk with optional hot sauce and add sliced okra, coating each piece.

Shake off excess buttermilk and toss okra into fry mix until evenly coated.

Working in batches, fry the okra for 3-4 minutes, stirring to ensure separation. Once golden brown, remove and drain on paper towels.
