Gyudon is a Japanese dish consisting of simmered beefsteak and onions over rice. It’s often served with a poached egg on top, a healthy sprinkle of sesame seeds, and seaweed salad. Gyudon is both sweet and salty, and so easy to make!

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb. Tri-Tip Steak
  • 1 bowl Cooked rice
  • For Beef Steak
  • 0.85 oz. Ginger
  • 3 oz. Apple
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt [For beef]
  • 1/2 tsp. Ground Black Pepper [For beef]
  • 1 tbsp. Honey
  • For Beef Stew
  • 2 tbsp. Cooking Oil
  • 12 oz. White onion
  • 1/2 cup White wine
  • 1 cup Water
  • tsp. Sugar
  • tbsp. Soy sauce
  • ³⁄₁₀ oz. Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt [For saute]
  • 2 tbsp. Cornstarch Slurry
  • For Poached Egg
  • 3 medium Egg
  • 1 tsp. Rice vinegar
  • For Garnish
  • 1 tsp. Sesame Seeds
  • 1 piece Dried Seaweed, sliced
  • 1 tsp. Scallion, chopped

Slice the steak into thin strips.

Transfer to a large bowl and add grated ginger, grated apple, honey, salt and pepper.

Marinade for 10 minutes.

Thinly slice onions and sauté until translucent.

Add white wine and water.

Bring to a boil then add beef, sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and salt.

Let it simmer for a few minutes then gently stir in a slurry of cornstarch and turn off the heat.

Boil water in a medium saucepan. Add rice vinegar and stir the water to create a gentle whirlpool in the pan.

Poach an egg for 3 minutes and drain on a paper towel.

Serve beef over rice, top with the poached egg. Garnish with sesame seeds, dried seaweed, and scallion. Enjoy!
