Easy and authentic Three Cup Chicken (san bei ji) recipe that anyone can make at home. Tender chicken is braised with garlic and ginger in a sweet and savory sauce, plus top with basil with extra aroma.

Ingredients:
  • 3 piece Chicken Legs
  • Marinade
  • 3 tsp. Soy Sauce
  • 2.5 tsp. Sugar
  • 0.25 tsp. Sesame Oil
  • 3 tsp. Corn Starch
  • 1 tsp. Cooking Oil
  • 0.5 cup Ginger, sliced
  • 0.5 cup Garlic, peeled
  • 0.5 cup Red Pepper, diced
  • Sauce
  • 4 tbsp. Yellow Rice Wine
  • 3 tbsp. Sesame Oil
  • 3 tbsp. Soy Sauce
  • 0.5 cup Scallion, chopped
  • 1 cup Basil

Cut the chicken legs into 0.5 inch (1.2 cm) thick pieces. Marinate chicken cutlets with soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil.

Add corn starch and cooking oil, and mix well. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.

Heat up 1 tsp oil in a pan, stir-fry ginger, garlic, and red pepper until aroma comes out. Take out and set aside.

Heat up the chicken cutlets in the same pan, add sesame oil, yellow rice wine, and soy sauce. Flip the chicken cutlets once they turn brown.

Add back the ginger, garlic, and red pepper to the pan.

Cover the pan with a lid and simmer for 2 minutes.
